Eye of Waffle Hulk

What or who is Waffle Hulk?  Another result of Wednesday night conversation with friends.  Just assume that "you had to be there" and go with it.

I couldn't think big picture today, so I just doodled some micro Hulkage in preparation for whole Hulkage at a later time.

Halloween Favor Fulfillment

Earlier this year one of my residents at work asked if I'd draw an Easter Bunny for a card she was sending to her grandkids. This was the result.

Today the same person asked me if I'd draw something for a Halloween card and I obliged.  I had some sittin' around time tonight while listening to the Monday Night Football game (overly-emotional Steelers fan, remember?) So between screaming, yelling, and cheering I did this:

I went all analog tonight and did this on good ol' fashioned paper with colored pencils and a black pen. My scanner never quite plays nice with colored pencils so it's not quite true to life but you get the idea.

Still Coloring the Wizard (Still Not a Euphemism)

Again, if you've not seen the highly ridiculous origin of this from roughly a year ago, go here. In an elaborate ploy to put off what I really should be working on, I decided to try and redo it.

If you've read that previous description you'll notice that several elements are missing.  I took a bit of artistic license (i.e. was lazy) and left some things out.  However, the whole point of the thing was to make it worthy of being airbrushed on the side of a van... in the 80's.  I feel confident that I've captured that vibe despite the omission of all the extraneous details.

Color the Wizard (no, that's not a euphemism)

When I said I was going to redo this I wasn't entirely sure that I believed myself.  But tonight, having no other source of amusement, I started adding some color to it.

I'm going to do something different (but still equally worthy-to-be-airbrushed-on-the-side-of-a-van) to the background.  I don't quite know what yet but it'll be awful, I'm sure.

No particular part of this is done yet... I've just been picking here and there at values.  I'm pleasantly surprised with how much better I've become since that original post was done back in December!

Let's Try That Again

Remember this?  It's was so gleefully absurd, but I was never really that happy with it.  I've gotten better since I originally did it so I've decided to give it another go.  Here's what I've got after a few hasty minutes of even hastier sketching.

Wherein I Trick Myself Into Doodling

I have actual projects to work on.  Actual work that people have hired me to do. Actual things that I have actually been assigned.

I can't actually find any motivation for any of it.

INSTEAD I doodle. And I only did that as an excuse to keep listening to alt-j's new album. If it wasn't for that I'd have long ago been reading in the bathtub.  Lucky for me, I'm easily obsessed by music and will drag out my time in front of the computer to continue listening to whatever it is I'm currently enamored by... with? Whatever the correct grammatical version of that is.

So this... I don't know what this is, really, other than a doodle that may or may not have the potential to turn into something more interesting.  I often find that when I sharpen up a doodle my opinion of it will change.  I think that I often love all of my tenuous timid lines but when that safety net is taken away so is my positive feelings about the drawing.

More than likely this was just something to get my hand and my brain talking to each other for a little while this evening.

Cover Art

Yet another design for yet another cover of my work's writing publication.

I sorta like this one.  I decided to keep it simple since I now have the capability to print them in color.

I've been picking away at this one for the better part of a week now but I didn't want to post mostly uninteresting progress pictures.  I thought it best to wait for the final product.
